OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Full-time experienced, compassionate and dedicated Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) to join our friendly and professional team. This full-time role is ideal for an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about animal care and welfare. You will play a key role in supporting our veterinary surgeons, caring for patients, and delivering outstanding service to clients.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent
  • Must be RCVS Registered
  • Previous experience in a small animal practice
  • Confidence with clinical tasks and basic nursing procedures

KEY SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to animal and client care
  • Strong team player with a positive and proactive attitude
  • Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure
  • Good organisational and record-keeping skills
  • Familiarity with practice management systems is advantageous

Happy Tails Vets is an independent small animal practice with a strong, experienced team. We currently have three RVNs, two Animal Care Assistants, three Receptionists, two permanent Veterinary Surgeons and a Practice Manager. We work closely to provide a high standard of care to our patients and a reliable, approachable service to our clients. Our team-focused environment supports professional development and encourages open communication. We’re a well-organised, supportive practice with a steady caseload and a genuine focus on clinical standards and staff wellbeing. Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinary surgeons in consultations, surgical procedures, and diagnostic investigations
  • Monitor anaesthesia and provide peri-operative care for patients
  • Carry out nurse clinics, including weight management, post-operative checks, dental care, and preventative healthcare
  • Administer medications, vaccinations, and fluid therapy as prescribed
  • Take and process diagnostic samples (e.g., bloods, urine, skin scrapes) and perform basic lab work
  • Maintain accurate clinical records in line with RCVS guidelines
  • Ensure cleanliness and infection control in all clinical areas
  • Safely handle and restrain animals of various species
  • Provide excellent client care, offering advice on pet health and post-treatment support
  • Participate in rota-based duties, including 1 in 3 Saturday mornings
  • Support Veterinary Care Assistants, the reception team and less experienced team members where applicable
