Our Registrar is accountable for the BACP Register/s of counsellors and psychotherapists and wider regulatory issues including maintaining Professional Standards Authority accredited status and to be the authorised recipient and signatory on all BACP Register/s related matters.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven experience of a regulatory role preferably within a professional body
  • Experience of leading and directing a multi-professional team with a diverse range of functions and positions.
  • Proven ability to address multiple and complex problems and develop solutions in the light of challenging and sensitive circumstances and in the face of conflicting pressures.
  • A thorough understanding of the role of healthcare professionals, their representative bodies and the system of statutory regulation and the Government’s wider plans for the modernisation of healthcare regulation
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and the ability to communicate at all levels
  • Sound judgement and ability to reach conclusions which are ethical and workable.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with a Board/Committee
  • A proven ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Analyse trends and effectively problem solve with solution-based approach
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Good report writing and presentation skills
  • Understanding of data collation, handling and analysing
Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • To take overall accountability for the BACP Register/s, ensuring it is fit for purpose to achieve and maintain Regulator approval; and to maintain suitable separation between BACP as the professional body and the Register in the interests of public protection.
  • To ensure that the BACP Register/s place the best interests of the public before those of the profession to maximise the effectiveness of BACP’s public protection function and to inspire public confidence in the Register, its staff and registrants.
  • To manage work to promote the Register/s to consumers, to raise the standards of conduct and competence in Registrants including, but not limited to, the Certificate of Proficiency, the Professional Conduct and register audit processes and the inclusion of other professional registers as appropriate and to ensure that the public is informed how the Register compares favourably to other organisations’ accredited registers.
  • To be responsible for the management of the Register Team in order to ensure high performance and high morale which are aligned to strategic planning objectives, Key Performance Indicators
  • To develop, deliver and measure the outcomes of strategic objectives of the Register in order to meet BACP’s strategic plan.
  • To consult with relevant external stakeholders, which include (but are not limited to) professional regulators, professional bodies and consumer and employer groups to establish and maintain strong working relationships.
  • To research and support the strategic development of best regulatory practice, including both statutory and non-statutory to enhance public protection outcomes.
  • To inform and advise the Public Protection Committee in its key function of holding the Register to account by reporting on the Register’s performance. To be responsible for an overall risk management process for the Register including identification assessment and mitigation of risk relating to both practitioners and the Register and to provide appropriate reporting of risk to the Committee.
  • To support the Director on the development of further Certificates of Proficiency and associated Sub Registers/Registers for differentiated scope and levels of practice in order to widen public protection remit to counselling associated professions.
  • To prepare monitor and control and manage the annual budget of the Register Team to ensure it is on target with Register strategic objectives.
