An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic individual to work as a full time Rehabilitation Support Worker within stroke and neurological rehabilitation on a Permanent contract.
Why work with us - The post will be a rotational post working on the George Earle Acute stroke ward, Templer ward rehabilitation Unit and within the Community Neuro Rehab Teams. The Stroke and neuro Unit at Newton Abbot Hospital has 20 stroke and neurology beds and provides post-acute inpatient stroke rehabilitation prior to discharge to the community. The acute stroke unit is at Torbay Hospital, providing acute stroke care and assessment. The community team supports ongoing rehabilitation in peoples own homes and in the outpatient department. The service is part of the continuum of care in South Devon and has been recognised nationally as an example of good practice.
You will work alongside qualified physiotherapists, speech therapists and occupational therapists in delivering rehabilitation programmes. You will need to be hard working and physically able to move and handle patients.
The primary function of this role is to ensure that opportunities for patients to rehabilitate are optimised during their stay in the stroke units or with the community neuro team. Under the direction of the interdisciplinary team the post-holder will:
This role is rotational working in Torbay Hospital, Newton Abbot Hospital and across the Torbay and South Devon Community. This role includes shifts rostered to work Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Interview patients and carers as part of the assessment process
Can adapt to changes in working pattern and environment on a day or weekly basis
Ability to monitor patient’s condition using knowledge of anatomy, physiology, normal function, basic assessments and test results
Using initiative to act on changes in patient circumstances under the guidance of registered staff
Undertake assigned care and therapy tasks to achieve stated objectives. This includes personal care, physical exercise, functional practice and tasks to improve cognition and communication
