JOB SUMMARY

Markham Children’s Choir was established choir in 2024 under the Markham Wesley Centre, and now entering its third artistic season from 2025-2026. We are looking for a rehearsal assistant for our upcoming season. This position is a 9-month commitment, with a possibility to extend based on mutual agreement between the candidate and the Markham Wesley Centre.
Rehearsals will be held every Saturday, 2-3:30pm, at 22 Esna Park Dr. Markham, ON L3R 1E1, call time for the rehearsal assistant is 1:45-3:45pm. Free parking available on site. The first rehearsal will begin on September 20, 2025.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience with choral or ensemble performance
  • A proficient piano skill is essential
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting under the Choir Conductor
  • Experience with children arts education and/or working in non-profit settings is considered an asset
  • Able to teach various styles of music and knowledge of different approaches to teaching music
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong ability to exchange knowledge
  • Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer
  • Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a ‘Clear’ or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Choir Conductor on artistic matters such as concerts, outreach opportunities, and festivals.
  • Assist choir rehearsals with curriculum designed by the Choir Conductor.
  • When available, attend or lead community concerts, fundraisers, or other events.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents/guardians of choristers, as needed.
