Description:

Reporting to the General Supervisor, Reliability, this position provides a variety of technical support functions. Some of the day-to-day activities include analyzing product failures and working with the customer and OEM to resolve issues. Producing technical reports for both internal and external communications as well as tracking equipment availabilities and maintaining up to date availability records/reconciliation. Another important function of this position is compiling technical data and recommended best practices required by customers and assisting in development of maintenance programs for new equipment. This position is also accountable for providing recommendations and technical support by trouble shooting, analyzing and follow-up to the key performance indicators of each process, typically to solve operational problems, design or redesign, reduce operating costs or optimize the use of assets which are required to meet objectives.

  1. Initially this position will be involved with the preparation of all necessary documentation for maintenance, system, and process standards for the equipment, in order to assist both SMS and the customer, in Elkford. Includes but not limited to:
  • Working closely with Maintenance Subject Matter Experts employed by the customer, the OEM, or SMS Equipment
  • The collection and development of Routine Maintenance Standards, Systems and Processes • The development of complete Maintenance Plans for Key Components and services, including details for BOM’s, support Equipment, personnel loading, etc…
  • The collection of best practices and newly applied systems and processes
  • The submissions of all information through a formal document submission process ensuring all documents are received and meet the customers’ expectations.
  1. Machine Availability This position requires close attention to record keeping, reconciling, report preparation and other related responsibilities as it applies to availability by Customer. Regularly contacts customers and suppliers personnel to verify and/or exchange information.
  • Gather concise Availability data from multiple customers and site operators/SMS Supervisors and ensuring accuracy.
  • Identification and analysis of technical issues relating to Availability, and communicate those issues with all stakeholders
  • Contribute to Continuous Improvement initiatives with all Customers.
  • Data input and report generating of (Raw and Adjusted Availability)
  • Lead projects that relate to Availability improvements.
  • Record and document all major component change outs on truck fleet ensuring components being changed out comply with the proper program
  • Develop procedures and processes including S.O.P.s
  1. Product issue analysis and Technical reporting
  • Assist in product issue resolution through the use of standard root cause analysis. Working closely with the OEM and internal SMS resources to share information leading to issue resolution and continuous product improvement. Including areas of welding / structural, mechanical, and electrical activities relating more specifically to the Komatsu equipment.
  • Timely creation and submission of technical reports such as TSI and TSR reports to the OEM as well as failure reporting to internal and customer stakeholders as required.
  • Works effectively with outside consultants such as industry experts and internal SMS departments to assess equipment and part failures and develop appropriate design and/or procedure improvements
  • Daily analysis of equipment oil sampling and reporting of any concerning irregularities
  1. Customer liaison for technical information • Main contact for customer technical information requests.
  • Work with OEM to provide technical information on equipment
  • Work with OEM and customer to develop equipment maintenance strategies and best practices
  1. Supports warranty department in technical service reporting generation and review
    Qualifications:

This position requires an Engineering degree or diploma (EIT), preferably in mechanical with 1-2 years of reliability experience. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered.

  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
  • Knowledge of OHSE acts and regulations as well as fleet inspection requirements.
  • Planning and organizational skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and complete projects.
  • Ability to work independently and/ or as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of company and customer standards and procedures as applicable or willing to learn.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of individuals and groups.
