    St. Lawrence Cruise Lines Inc. is seeking applicants for the position of Relief Ship’s Captain for a Kingston-based overnight cruise ship on 4, 5, 6 and 7 night voyages to Montreal, Ottawa and Quebec City. The Canadian Empress is a 64-passenger vessel rated over 60 tons.
    This is a relief position for the 2025 season which runs from May to October. The ideal candidate might be looking for additional works days/hours to supplement their income, or might otherwise have limited availability. Candidates must have Transport Canada certification and experience on like-sized vessels. Under company direction, the Captain is responsible for the safe passage, piloting, and navigation of the vessel. The Captain also serves as ship’s authority, and is responsible for the overall ship’s management.

Responsibilities

-Pilot and navigate the vessel in such a way to ensure the safety of the ship, passengers, and crew
- Maintain scheduled itineraries while observing safety protocols, speed limits, and collision regulations
- Conduct oneself according to conditions and regulations as set out by St. Lawrence Cruise Lines and the Canadian Coast Guard
- Conduct necessary training and exercises as required by St. Lawrence Cruise Lines and Transport Canada
- Conduct ship’s cruise-related business (ship’s articles, port reports, cruise reports, shore leave control, incident reports, Ship’s Official Log)
- Provide direct supervision of ship’s Mate, Engineer and general supervision of all crew members
- Monitor the appearance and performance of crew to maintain ship’s morale, discipline, and professionalism
- Attend social functions and receive passengers when required
