What you’ll do – The opportunity

Relief Lab Technician
Location:

Description:
Reporting to the Regional Quality Assurance Manager. This relief contract is available until March 2026. The successful candidate must be able to work a variety of rotating shifts. Hourly rate: as per SEA collective agreement - $27.82 (starting rate).
Responsibilities:

Conducting Chemistry Analyses

  • Sampling and testing for chemistry analyses for at all stages of brewing and packaging process
  • Quality control and audits of production lines
  • Preparing solutions, reagents and sample formulation
  • Conducting tests and analyses using requested techniques

Conducting Microbiological Analyses

  • Quality control of production lines – collecting micro samples using sterile techniques

Other Responsibilities:

  • Keep analyses results confidential within QA department and productions managers
  • Participate in taste panels
  • Perform tests in an accurate manner
  • Operate, maintain and calibrate the laboratory instruments
  • General housekeeping and using 5S system practices in everyday work
  • Placing non-conforming product on hold following National procedure
  • Preparing samples for shipments
  • Lifting and carrying heavy samples
  • Other duties as required

Requirements:

  • Must be 19 years of age or older
  • University Degree in Science (with Concentration in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Microbiology) or Food Science
  • Working knowledge of microbiology and chemistry
  • Perform duties to a high level of accuracy with limited or no direct supervision
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and results driven environment
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure high level of quality at all stages of the brewing and packaging processes
  • Follow Sleeman Safety and General Rules
  • A keen interest in all facets of the brewing and packaging process
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work shifts including day, afternoon and night
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory background check which includes education and employment references

General Work Conditions:

  • Exposure to cold and wet environment, hazardous chemicals
  • Working with a burner and flammable substances
  • Working on heights, some lifting and carrying involved
  • Other hazards typical for analytical and microbiological laboratory
