Kean Miller is seeking an experienced Relief/Overflow Legal Secretary in our Houston office (100% in office). The ideal candidate will have: Strong knowledge of state and federal court rules and filing procedures Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, respond promptly to emails, ask questions, solve problems, take initiative Experience drafting and finalizing pleadings, briefs and discovery Ability to prioritize tasks and have excellent time management ability Duties Draft, format, and proofread legal documents, such as pleadings, motions, and contracts, with a high degree of accuracy E-filing in State and Federal Courts Handle communication with clients, courts, and opposing counsel in a professional and discreet manner Manage attorney calendars, including scheduling appointments, meetings, and court appearances Assist with the preparation of trial materials, document compilations, and legal research support as needed Perform general administrative duties such as transcribing dictation, copying, and filing Maintain strict confidentiality of all client and case information Schedule depositions with attorneys, clients, witnesses, and court reporters Schedule conference calls and on-sit/off-sit meetings Arrange and coordinate travel arrangements Calendar depositions, hearings, trials and all associated dates Manage Outlook calendar of all appointments, conferences and meetings Open new matters, run conflict checks for partner’s review, prepare engagement letters Document management or organization, saving documents and emails to document management system Familiarity with court rules, filing procedures, and e-filing Input attorneys time into billing software (Aderant) Prepare cover letters for attorney bills Submit attorneys expense reports Manage bills for third party vendors, process check requests and follow up with accounting Overflow/Relief duties for receptionist and copy center as needed Job Requirements Well versed with e-filing protocol and procedure for both state and federal courts Experience with a document management system Keen attention to detail and strong organizational skills High proficiency in MS Office Suite Must be able to multi-task and successfully manage a variety of demands daily What Kean Miller Offers We offer a people-first culture, meaningful work, competitive salaries, and an extensive benefits package that includes health, life, disability, dental, vision coverage and 401(k).
