Description:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILTIES:
To provide care and supervision to residents living in the group home over the weekend and as needed in the absence of the full-time staff.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
- Must be capable of supervising a group of youth for a brief period of time and able to handle any emergency that should arise within the home or with the residents.
- Must be culturally sensitive to different ethnic groups.
SKILLS / ABILITIES:
- Ability to relate compassionately, non-judgmentally and professionally to refugee minors from other countries.
- Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
- Ability to follow directions, but also make sound independent decisions.
- Must be flexible enough to work various shifts.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English
- Average verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have access to and be able to drive a vehicle day or night.
- Bending, lifting, and manual dexterity are required to perform functions associated with the job.
- Must be physically alert, stable and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work with and socialize with youth and staff members from diverse backgrounds and other countries.
- Must demonstrate maturity and flexibility in stressful and emotionally demanding situations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Must continue to receive a satisfactory rating on the annual performance evaluation
Responsibilities:
- Supervise the residents living in the home.
- Supervise the general maintenance of the house and grounds.
- Assist youth with the preparation of nutritious balanced meals.
- Handle any emergencies that should arise and contact the correct authorities and group home director or on-call staff.
- Carry out of general schedules or special activities that may have been arranged by the group home director.
- Provide transportation as needed. Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Give written reports to full-time staff/group home director on the operation of the house, behavior of residents and any unusual event that may have occurred during their absence.
- Provide personal hygiene supplies (towels, wash cloths, pillow, etc.) as needed.
- Report broken items to the group home director.
- No company or visitors are allowed while on duty. Staffs’ responsibility is to the residents.
