Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILTIES:

To provide care and supervision to residents living in the group home over the weekend and as needed in the absence of the full-time staff.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

  1. Must be capable of supervising a group of youth for a brief period of time and able to handle any emergency that should arise within the home or with the residents.
  2. Must be culturally sensitive to different ethnic groups.

SKILLS / ABILITIES:

  1. Ability to relate compassionately, non-judgmentally and professionally to refugee minors from other countries.
  2. Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  3. Ability to follow directions, but also make sound independent decisions.
  4. Must be flexible enough to work various shifts.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  2. Average verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Must have access to and be able to drive a vehicle day or night.
  4. Bending, lifting, and manual dexterity are required to perform functions associated with the job.
  5. Must be physically alert, stable and able to work with minimal supervision.
  6. Ability to work with and socialize with youth and staff members from diverse backgrounds and other countries.
  7. Must demonstrate maturity and flexibility in stressful and emotionally demanding situations.
  8. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  9. Must continue to receive a satisfactory rating on the annual performance evaluation
Responsibilities
  1. Supervise the residents living in the home.
  2. Supervise the general maintenance of the house and grounds.
  3. Assist youth with the preparation of nutritious balanced meals.
  4. Handle any emergencies that should arise and contact the correct authorities and group home director or on-call staff.
  5. Carry out of general schedules or special activities that may have been arranged by the group home director.
  6. Provide transportation as needed. Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  7. Give written reports to full-time staff/group home director on the operation of the house, behavior of residents and any unusual event that may have occurred during their absence.
  8. Provide personal hygiene supplies (towels, wash cloths, pillow, etc.) as needed.
  9. Report broken items to the group home director.
  10. No company or visitors are allowed while on duty. Staffs’ responsibility is to the residents.
