JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The University Libraries is seeking applications for a remediation specialist to fulfill the goals of the Libraries’ Accessibility Plan by ensuring all digital content meets ADA Title II guidelines. This position will report to the Adaptive Technologies Coordinator and will be part of a team that handles accessibility requests for the Libraries.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and demonstrate willingness to learn
  • Ability to follow direction
  • Work as part of a team and individually
  • Ability to focus with repetitive processes
  • Prior remediation experience is a plus but not required.
  • Familiar with Adobe Acrobat DC and Microsoft Word is preferred.

Responsibilities

The position will assist with remediating different types of content from multiple platforms to ensure accessibility for all users. This includes making PDF files accessible using Adobe Acrobat DC and Abbyy Fine Reader. Also will make Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files accessible as well as adding descriptions to both image files and video content. Remediation work will include alternate format requests from patrons as well as all new, inaccessible files uploaded to Libraries’ applications. The level of complexity of the work will vary depending on content of documents. The selected candidate will also help to keep statistics and track requests as they are completed. May occasionally scan textbooks or other files and may also help to assist with accessibility concerns involving databases or web content as needed.
