Description

The Renewable Energy Advisor serves as a strategic advisor on renewable energy deployment for TNC’s North America climate mitigation program. They develop, coordinate, lead, and implement workstreams necessary to achieve the Conservancy’s North America Renewable Energy Deployment Strategy goals and serve as an expert advisor on renewable energy. They lead on renewable energy tools, practices, and demonstration projects to advance Strategy goals and play a lead role on corporate engagement, science and analysis important to advance these goals. This work is carried out in coordination with the Nature Conservancy’s North America Policy and Government Relations Team, other North America Region teams, business units across the Region, and the Global Tackle Climate Change program, and is accomplished primarily through collaboration with Nature Conservancy state business units and interaction with U.S. state and federal agencies, partner organizations, and the corporate sector.
The Renewable Energy Advisor provides technical and program support to Conservancy field operations. They further the work of the Conservancy’s Renewable Energy Deployment Strategy through development and implementation of projects and practices to meet Strategy goals. They work in collaboration with teams across the North America Region and the Global Tackle Climate Change team to advance renewable energy development practices, tools, and demonstration projects to meet 3C (climate, conservation, and community) objectives and catalyze learning, replication and uptake internally and externally. They build technical capacity in state business units and within other Nature Conservancy teams to support use of practices and tools and leverage demonstration projects to meet Strategy goals. They evaluate the potential for and play a role in engaging with corporations on renewable energy deployment.
The Renewable Energy Advisor supports the development of innovative scientific methods, analysis, and frameworks to inform solutions to scale and more broadly advance Strategy goals. They play a role in developing and maintaining strategic partnerships and collaborate with Conservancy colleagues on outreach and communications to promote Strategy goals with partners and other priority audiences. They support efforts to raise funding for our climate mitigation work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS degree and 7 years’ experience in conservation practice or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Fundraising experience, including identifying donor prospects and donor cultivation
  • Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including managing finances and coordinating the work of other professionals and partners.
  • Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
  • Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies.
  • Experience negotiating.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7-10 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with current renewable energy trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) and geographic regions. Knowledge of current trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) and regions.
  • Ability to develop practical applications of scientific concepts and technical innovations for conservation purposes.
  • Knowledge of methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiatives and experience conceiving and implementing strategic initiatives.
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
  • Politically savvy.

Responsibilities
  • Leads priority workstreams within the Renewable Energy Deployment Strategy.
  • Works to ensure coordination and alignment of North America Renewable Energy Strategy activities and work streams to meet Strategy goals, and to ensure coordination and alignment of the Strategy within the North America Climate Mitigation Program.
  • Oversees and supports project management and collaborates with cross-functional staff with responsibility for project management, budget management, and communications, including work plans to meet deadlines and ensure program accountability.
  • Works within/manages a budget to complete projects, negotiate and contract with vendors, and assist with budget development.
  • Provides advice to Conservancy state business units and divisions on renewable energy deployment, and collaborates and coordinates across business units to lead and advance Strategy goals.
  • Meets departmental strategic goals and objectives.
  • Communicates professionally with a wide variety of people from different cultures.
  • Prepares and presents technical and project proposals and negotiates with federal, bilateral, and multilateral agencies and/or the business and corporate sector, to achieve program goals.
  • Conveys the mission of The Nature Conservancy persuasively to diverse groups including key legislators, government officials, energy companies, climate and conservation organizations and others who are critical to the Conservancy’s overall public funding strategies and policy goals.
  • Works in partnership with other organizations in a collaborative and consultative or advisory capacity.
  • Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.
  • Supports efforts to develop and implement multi-year fundraising strategies, and goals for climate mitigation.
  • Effectively directs and or participates in complex negotiations.
  • Develops constructive and effective working relationships inside and outside the Conservancy.
