RENOVATION PROJECT MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION

Location: Local (Drivers license required, vehicle not required, no stipend for commute)Duration: Temporary — Starting with moving and unpacking and continuing until decor is complete (4-6 months)Pay: Hourly rate (Will start on Venmo, could transition to Quickbooks) Schedule: Flexible hours (3 days a week/ 2-3 hours per day. Weekends optional)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position is a hybrid of administrative support, assistant help, organization and other components of project coordination within the context of a home renovation. The Project Manager would preferably have some interior decorating experience, interest in design, and knowledge of the industry.
Because the home is mostly built, the design process consists of a dialogue between: myself (owner), Jim (architect), BJ (contractor), and his subcontractors. However, this position offers the opportunity to join and contribute to design meetings.
Although much of the design decisions have already been made in regards to plumbing, electrical, lighting, HVAC and security – and while more design decisions will continue to be decided by the main team – there are some smaller aesthetic design decisions to make, for which I am seeking some design consulting.
While I feel strongly about what decor I want, there may be some selections I need help finalizing. I also will need help placing all decorating orders. Additionally, a good amount of the sourcing has already been researched, but I may need help finding items from time to time.

Below is a rough overview of the most significant roles that will likely take up the majority of the time dedicated:

  • Project Manager
  • Confirming what selections have been decided and ordered
  • Figuring out what selections have been decided, but not ordered
  • Figuring out the selection schedule and priority of decisions
  • Placing orders with vendors
  • Order tracking and coordination with vendors
  • While my contractor can place orders for all materials and some products from a design perspective, he will not place orders for interior decorating
  • Keeping up communication with vendors
  • Creating and organizing a schedule of installations
  • Assistant and admin work in helping to set up trade accounts (for showroom visits / placing orders)

These main roles will be blended in a hybrid format with some secondary responsibilities:

  • Design Consultant (Some opportunities to provide guidance, opinions, etc. This is secondary.)
  • Helping to finalize selections
  • Helping with product research and exploration on the selections I feel indecisive about
  • Assistance with sourcing (where needed)
  • Problem-solving (when a product I thought I was going to select no longer fits)

The following aspects of a full-fledged Designer role will be included in the design consultant’s role:

  • No percentage fee / no markup
  • LLC may be structured with two roles: Founder/Creative Director and then Design Assistant. The design assistant title is preliminary and open to evolution and promotion. For now, the person with the title Design Assistant would be fulfilling the Renovation Project Manager role.
  • Because the budget and the timeline are not conducive to hiring a designer at this stage, I am acting as designer and the person being hired as Renovation Project Manager will not get “design credit” for designing the house

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Enjoys project management
  • Self-motivated and reliable
  • Must be comfortable creating and collaborating on Google Sheets, Google Docs, and Design Inventory Catalogues
  • Willing and able to run errands individually and collaboratively to showrooms
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Optional but preferred: Access to a vehicle
