Job Title: Repair Design Engineer
Working Pattern: Full-time
Job Location: Derby/Hybrid
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Repair Design Engineer to join the team in Derby. In this role you will develop repair process definitions and repair sources by optimizing concepts and solutions within agreed engineering and business constraints. Enhance the competitive and commercial performance of Rolls-Royce and its customers and where relevant, it’s Suppliers, across the product life cycle.

  • Relevant Technical degree or equivalent industrial experience.
  • Good knowledge of functionality of relevant components and systems with full consideration of the intended form fit and functions of the product.
  • Knowledge of System, subsystem and component design and the effect of Repair of components on the greater system, specifying and managing the evolving trade-offs so that the result satisfies the captured requirements.
  • Knowledge of materials properties for the selection of material or execution of process. Includes chemistry, structure, mechanical and chemical performance.
  • A mind-set for creating technical solutions with a Life Cycle Cost philosophy.
  • General understanding of manufacturing processes relevant to their business, and detailed understanding of the manufacturing processes relevant to their role.
  • Understanding of Regulatory and Industry Codes and Standards (e.g. design codes) relevant to their role.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING.

In this role you will:

  • Develop repair definitions to meet the needs of the business and customers
  • Return service run components back to a serviceable condition utilising various manufacturing/lab processes.
  • Define and maintain technical requirements for component repair processes and ensure compliance with them.
  • Identify opportunities for new repairs based on the condition of service run components and define the limits within a repair is technically feasible. This can include the definition of dressing geometry or the definition of maximum allowable material removal.
  • Definition of the validation and verification requirements for repair definitions.
  • Create and maintain relationships with customers through good communication to ensure technical solutions meet agreed requirements.
  • Identify repair technology gaps.
  • Create and maintain relationships with Design Engineers and Product Definers to ensure that repair methods are considered during initial design concepts and any technology gaps resulting from new design philosophy are identified early in the lifecycle.
