Reporter I - Part time, TEMP Who Are We We are a global community that is driven by the creative spirit of Los Angeles. At least, that is what our members tell us.  As NPR’s flagship member station in Southern California for more than 30 years and a community service of Santa Monica College, KCRW is the next generation of public media. How You’ll Make An Impact  The Reporter I reports local news and feature stories for KCRW. This is a 20-hour per week position that lasts until September 11, 2026. The Reporter I reports to the Senior Managing Editor. Responsibilities include taking assignments for stories needed by the newsroom; pitching stories; reporting stories for every platform we utilize – social media, audio, newsletters, digital – in the field and remotely; shooting photos and videos for our social platforms; writing audio, digital, and short-form video versions of stories; and editing carousels and videos for online platforms. This reporter will be responsible for producing carousels and videos for our social media platforms at least once per week, generating ideas for quick-turn and evergreen stories, and translating those stories across platforms. The reporter will be expected to collaborate with others on the news and social media teams to experiment with different types of content and adjust course based on feedback.   Here’s What You’ll Do: * Basic reporting * Taking assignments for news and feature stories * Developing and executing original, creative and enterprise stories for all platforms * Write and edit audio, digital and video files independently. Here’s What You’ll Bring:  * Knowledgeable about general news and Southern California * Minimum 1 year journalism work experience required * A track record of well-written stories that are fair, balanced and error free * A track record of work online that demonstrates good news judgment, plus storytelling and editing skills in short-form video.
