About the role The Information is seeking a reporter to break news and write deeply reported features on venture capital and startups. The reporter will scoop hot startup funding rounds as well as report on the startups’ financials. They’ll keep the pulse on how the most influential VC firms are doing—including by profiling their leaders and breaking news on their returns. They’ll want to write features that spotlight emerging trends, from perks investors are offering to win deals to the ways venture firms’ limited partners are exerting their influence. We also want to elevate the reach and stature of our reporters. The reporter will co-write our award-winning Dealmaker franchise and will have the opportunity to moderate at our conferences and appear on our new streaming video show. This reporter will join a team of collegial reporters who share tips and collaborate without some of the typical bureaucracy that characterizes big newsrooms. Strong reporting is the driving pulse of this newsroom, fostered by editors and senior reporters who actively coach reporters on how to advance their reporting and writing. What you'll do Break news about VC deals, including funds, performance, and leadership changes Write in-depth profiles of the most important investors, startup founders, and trends Immerse oneself in the topic to write with authority and generate story ideas Contribute to editorial products such as Next GP list, TI 50, and org charts Keep and cultivate relationships with trusted sources Work with colleagues out of our three newsrooms Qualifications At least two years of business reporting experience A track record of scoop-based reporting in business, technology, or politics Ability to cultivate sources and develop a beat Familiarity with major developments in tech and finance over the last three years Bachelor’s degree The ability to work out of The Information’s San Francisco or New York office. Salary Range: 80,000 - 160,000 USD Annually + Bonus + Benefits The salary range posted is based on the company's good faith belief at the time of the posting.
