THE OPPORTUNITY:

The University of Manitoba is looking for a Research Accountant to support the financial administration and control of grant and contract funds across the institution.
This position plays a critical role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the University’s financial records and reporting, with responsibilities that directly support institutional accountability. The financial reports produced in this role are distributed across all levels of University administration, as well as to government bodies and external funding agencies. Additionally, the role involves maintaining regular communication with external sponsors and internal stakeholders to support the financial administration of research and special projects. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, a strong commitment to compliance, and the ability to work collaboratively within a dynamic, research-intensive environment.

THE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Undergraduate degree is required, with a major in accounting preferred.
  • Enrollment in a minimum level of Core 2 of the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) professional accounting program is required.
  • Systems training in a computerized financial records environment would be as asset.
  • Two years experience in an accounting related position required, where knowledge of accounting theory and practice has been acquired.
  • Experience working in a complex, integrated computer and information system environment and a working knowledge of computer produced data is required.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must be skilled in the use of a personal computer and desktop software Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
  • Good knowledge of university policy and procedures would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of operation of general office machines (copiers, fax machines, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Aurora Finance system would be an asset.
