THE OPPORTUNITY:

The University of Manitoba is looking for a detail-oriented Research Administrative Assistant to support the day-to-day operations of the Research Accounting team.
Reporting to the Manager of Research and Special Fund Accounting, this position will assist with setting up research funds, processing related transactions, maintaining records, and handling payments. The role also involves regular communication with researchers, external funders, university staff, and other partners to ensure timely information exchange and receipt of funds.

THE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Completion of a formal training program in a related discipline from a recognized institution required.
  • Systems training in a computerized financial records environment would be an asset.
  • Minimum 2 years directly related accounting or administrative experience in an office environment where processing large volumes of information, maintaining files and communicating with staff is required. - Experience working in a complex, integrated computer and information system environment and a working knowledge of computer-produced data is required.
  • Experience working in a customer-focus environment is required.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and practices is required.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must be skilled in the use of a personal computer and desktop software Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook and Windows XP).
  • Must have strong organizational skills with emphasis on completion and accuracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal and telephone manners required.
  • Basic knowledge of general office practices with the ability to organize and prioritize workloads.
  • Ability to handle stress under pressure during peak periods required.
  • Must have the ability to process high volumes of information with speed, accuracy and attention to detail in order to meet strict deadlines.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and public in a diplomatic, firm but tactful manner is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service is required.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
  • Knowledge of university policy and procedures would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of Aurora Finance system would be an asset.
