Description

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Fund Manager administers the department financial budgeting, planning and grants management in accordance with UCLA and funding agencies’ policies and procedures. In addition, the fund manager also supervise a sub-center CCPR’s finance. CCPR is solely funded by a broad range of contracts and grants with demanding financial reporting requirements. Proactively train and supervise a fund manager to manage a portfolio of over $20 million extramural research funding including federal, state, and private foundation. Develop budget, proposal preparation, submission and manage pre and post-awards for faculty investigators. Generate and review complex financial reports to ensure federal policies compliance. Serve as backup DSA for the department. Interpret policies and provide guidance to PIs and other staff members. Proactively manage and maintain fiscal control over extramural, restricted and unrestricted campus funds, and gifts funds. The Fund Manager will collaborate with various campus units to manage contracts and grants from inception to closeout, including subawards management. Will work closely with personnel staff to coordinate PI summer salary, course buyout, course release, Graduate Student Researcher and other research staff hiring.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated knowledge of University accounting procedures, Contracts and Grants management policies and regulations for NIH grants. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a high volume of pre- and post-award extramural activities from federal and state funded grants and private foundation awards. (Required)
  • Demonstrated analytical skill and problem-solving ability to formulate logical and objective conclusions. Strong knowledge of UCLA financial system. Familiar with UCPath, NPEAR, EDB, CDW, TOF, ERS, ORA portal, etc. (Preferred)
  • Excellent financial skills to monitor budget and expenditure and project balance accurately. Ability to maintain accurate and complete records and reconcile financial activity on a regular basis. (Required)
  • Demonstrated skill in spreadsheet design and maintenance, Words and Access. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, to manage multiple tasks efficiently amid frequent interruptions and with minimal supervision (Required)
  • Ability to prioritize complex workload to meet various deadlines. (Required)
  • Excellent interpersonal skill to interact and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students and other campus departments. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other University Offices and funding agencies. (Required)
  • Demonstrated written communication skills to prepare concise, logical, grammatically correct analytical reports, correspondence, policies and procedures. (Required)
  • Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices or procedures to identify patterns, tendencies and relations; formulate logical and objective conclusions; and recognize alternatives and their implications. (Required)
  • Ability to listen effectively and empathize with individuals to deal with confidential and sensitive information and situations. Excellent communication skills to provide or obtain information, explain policies and procedures to others. (Required)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction. Demonstrated skill in training, organizing and establishing a harmonious and productive work environment. (Required)
