Job Description
The Centre for Youth Bipolar Disorder (CYBD) is a clinical research program focused on youth bipolar disorder. CYBD activities include intervention studies, observational studies, biological studies, and knowledge translation relevant to youth bipolar disorder. The focus population is youth who have bipolar disorder or who have a first degree relative with bipolar disorder.
CYBD is seeking a full-time, contract (12 months) Research Analyst. The incumbent will report to the Director of CYBD and join a clinical research team working on a number of research studies examining bipolar disorder. In this position, you will be responsible for working both autonomously and in a team of research staff to achieve study targets.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Conduct reliable diagnostic interviews with youth with bipolar disorder and their families including the Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School Age Children, Present and Life Version (KSADS-PL) and Adolescent Longitudinal Interval Follow-up Evaluation (ALIFE) and administer validated questionnaires.
  • Take physical measurements including height, weight, abdominal circumference, and blood pressure.
  • Conduct laboratory procedures that involve preparing blood samples for analyses (e.g. using a centrifuge, pipetting blood serum).
  • Assist with the proper freezer storage of blood and saliva samples.
  • With guidance and supervision from the director, lab manager, and research coordinators, assist with the day-to-day operations of multiple studies.
  • Liaise with investigators, study staff, and clinical staff to ensure the consistency and quality of all study procedures.
  • Monitor project requirements in order to ensure that data and procedure flow are in accordance with study protocols.
  • Prepare research ethics board applications and maintain study compliance with all terms.
  • Participate in the collection, delivery, entry, and verification of data via REDCap.
  • Maintain easily accessible records of participant contact, participant recruitment, participant tracking, participant interviews, the return of self-reports, and issuance of participant payments.
  • Attend and participate in all project-related meetings, including regular staff meetings and research team meetings.
  • Assist with preparing and submitting grant applications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, health sciences, or a related field, combined with at least one (1) year of relevant research experience.
  • Previous experience using standardized semi-structured interviews and questionnaires is required.
  • Previous experience with grant applications and submissions is required.
  • Previous experience working with adolescents and their families is a strong asset.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral/written), and organizational skills are required; along with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to exercise initiative and good judgment is required for this position. The successful candidate will have the ability to multi-task and produce high-quality, accurate work in a fast-paced environment, while meeting program deadlines.
  • The ability to work effectively in a variety of settings with individuals from diverse backgrounds is required.
