In an ever-changing world, companies and governments need reliable and actionable insight to lead the transition to a sustainable future. That’s why we cover the entire supply chain with unparalleled breadth and depth, backed by over 50 years’ experience. Together, we deliver the insight they need to separate risk from opportunity and make confident decisions when it matters most.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of one or more of Europe’s major power markets and the enablers, sensitivities and implications of decarbonisation in the sector is highly desirable, as is familiarity with key commercial frameworks – such as support/incentives regimes, power purchase agreements, capacity and ancillary markets – and energy policy.
  • You’ll have exceptional analytical/quantitative skills, with experience of modelling or commercial analysis in power markets or equivalent, gained at a utility, developer, consultancy/research provider, university or other markets/investment focussed organisation highly desirable.
  • You should be comfortable working with large datasets, databases and APIs, and the tools necessary to handle and analyse them, such as Python, SQL and Power Query. Experience of optimization models is an advantage.
  • If you’ve gained experience in an entry-level role in the sector and are now ready to take the next step in your career, we’d like to talk about how you can continue your development with us.
Responsibilities

ROLE PURPOSE

We are looking for a Research Analyst to join our European power markets team. The analyst will be supporting market research and modelling, policy analysis, power price and revenue forecasting across Europe.
You will be part of a team that is responsible for delivering high-quality European power market research and insight. The team deploys simulation and computational models and data analytics to forecast the evolution of power supply, impacts of policy and market structure, and the changing characteristics, costs, and revenues of assets. You’ll work closely with team colleagues and more widely with subject matter experts from across Wood Mackenzie, providing an excellent opportunity to expand and deepen your understanding of market dynamics in the region. Your work will contribute to the growth, quality, and commercial success of our research.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collect and analyse industry information and data and identify market trends.
  • Interpret outturn market dynamics and forecast model outputs to produce considered and insightful power markets analysis.
  • Build relationships with existing and prospective clients, developing opportunities to demonstrate the scope and value of our research, gather feedback and market intelligence, pursue new business and secure revenue growth.
  • Work as part of a team to maintain, develop and operate our suite of simulation and computational models, and associated tools and processes, spanning power market dispatch, renewable resource availability forecasting, sectoral demand forecasting and more.
  • Ensure that key data flows, including those to/from other research teams, meet agreed specifications on quality, scope, and timeliness.
  • Generate ideas and innovative solutions for analysis, insight and process improvement and automation.
  • Drive collaboration across the business by ensuring completion of complex ad-hoc data requests on time and with high quality, whilst following policies, procedures and best practices.
