GENERAL PURPOSE
With 100 faculty, approximately $25 million in annual research funding, more than 4,000 undergraduates, and over 400 graduate students, the College of Biological Science (CBS) is positioned to be a significant part of the University of Guelph’s path forward. Reporting to the Manager, Research and Graduate Studies, the Research and Graduate Officer is responsible for enhancing the excellence of the College’s graduate training and research enterprise.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The position primarily supports graduate programming and services within CBS. A key responsibility of the role is facilitating program quality review processes and leading the development of new graduate programs; this involves conducting background research, collecting and analyzing data, drafting content, and liaising with diverse groups of stakeholders.
The incumbent also manages college-level graduate awards procedures and recruitment activities, provides guidance to students in preparing competitive scholarship applications, and leads initiatives aimed at enhancing the graduate student experience. These initiatives include organizing professional skills development opportunities such as workshops, seminars, symposia, and mentoring programs. The incumbent is a key point of contact for advising students, faculty and staff on graduate funding questions and promoting funding opportunities.
Additional duties include supporting the growth and success of the College’s sponsored research programs by reviewing and editing research proposals and faculty award nominations, and assisting with budget development for large grants. The incumbent also tracks key research metrics in the College and prepares an annual research report, and contributes to other research communication activities (e.g., research highlights, website content) and special projects as required.
