Description
The Faculty of Law is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Research and Grants Associate.
This position reports to the Director, Operations (Faculty of Law) and will work closely with the academic staff and students in the Faculty of Law, and with the Centre. The Research Associate will support the faculties of Law and Social Work in identifying innovative approaches and actions to help reimagine the family justice system from an adversarial, court-centric model to one that focuses on helping family wellbeing.
The interdisciplinary research must reflect the complexity of the partnerships and stakeholders representing the Faculty of Law and the Centre. This position works Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week, with occasional evening or weekend work to meet project deadlines.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Research Support

• Support activities of key research studies in consultation with the Research Chair and research team leadership.
• Manage research projects in the Faculty of Law for both the Chair of the Centre, as well as other faculty members, which includes grant applications, project set-up, monitor the finances of each project, overseeing reporting to grantors, extending projects as needed and any other project management needs.
• Serve as a resource and liaison on matters of ethics and compliance policy and procedures for administration, researchers, research ethics committee members and staff.
• Provide support to research assistants and students.
• Mentor, coach, and guide student research assistants to foster professional growth. Mentor student researchers on data collection, analysis, and storage and following regulations.
• Maintain project timelines and ensure deliverables are met within set deadlines.
• Support research budget development and monitor expenses in collaboration with administrative staff.
• Monitor and report on budgets for research projects.
• Share and coordinate data results with collaborating organizations and systems.
• Identify areas for improvement in operational and functional practices and contribute to optimizing the Centre and Faculty of Law processes related to systems transformation research.
• Collaborate on family well-being, systems transformation, and family justice research.
• Regularly update the research team, and leadership in the Centre as well as in the faculties of Law and Social Work on data collection and analysis.
• Prepare and present reports of findings.

Grant Support

• Act as the faculty contact for conferences associated with grants and supporting the planning and implementation of those conferences. This includes working with the Faculty of Law’s Events Coordinator as needed.
• Assist the Research Chairs and other Centre and Faculty team members with the submission of funding grants to facilitate a long-term sustainable research program in systems transformation for family justice as well as other research needs in the Faculty.
• Provide guidance, support, and advice for developing and implementing Tri-Council grants.
• Writing and coordinating grant application materials, reports, and developing presentation materials.
• Review grant applications for signoff for the Research Chair and Associate Dean (Research), including information that is confidential and sensitive in nature.
• Assist with compilation of grant applications, including proofreading assistance.
• Resolve accounting issues on post-award management (e.g. payment requisitions, invoices, journal transfers, budget revisions, expense claims, consultation with sponsors, etc.)
• Track submission and results of grants and contracts.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (social science, communication, business, or related discipline) is required. A graduate degree in a related field is preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of recent, related experience required.
• Experience in grant writing and project account management is required.
• Experience in research support is required.
• Proven experience administering research projects, from conceptualization to completion, is required.
• Excellent technical writing skills.
• Experience with Drupal will be considered an asset.
• Ability to manage a project budget is essential.
• Demonstrated track record of developing successful grant applications, receiving and leading grants, and managing grants.
• Demonstrated ability in developing collaborative relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
• The ability to use good judgement, take initiative, work independently, and organize and complete work with minimal supervision.
• Familiarity with the University of Calgary and its organizational environment is an asset.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work to coordinate teams of multidisciplinary professionals.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated proficiency in effectively communicating ideas.
• Proficient computer skills, including solid working experience using relevant technology such as quantitative and qualitative data analysis programs, Microsoft Office Applications (Word,
• Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat), and the Internet, are required. Experience with Peoplesoft is a strong asset.
• Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to seamlessly perform and prioritize multiple tasks with excellent attention to detail.
• Proficient digital and physical database management skills for collecting, maintaining and organizing information data.
• Ability to work independently on projects, from conception to completion, multi-task, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to employ self-care strategies and maintain a calm, respectful demeanor and positive attitude in potentially stressful situations.
