REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
· A degree in public health, planning, community development or related field
· Minimum of 2 years’ experience in research, planning or related
· Experience working with community-based organizations
· Strong writing, research, analysis and synthesizing skills; and
· Ability to work independently and as part of a highly collaborative team.
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION
BASIC PURPOSE
As Research & Program Analyst, you play an important role in the pursuit and achievement of BC Healthy Communities’ (BCHC) overall objective, mission and vision of capacity building and engagement.
Reporting to the Executive Director, you are responsible for a portfolio that consists primarily of our PlanH initiative, which may include several other smaller projects. You will work directly with the communities and partners we serve and play a key role in providing expertise for community planning and facilitated workshops and learning events across the province.
In this role, you:
· Work closely with multi-sectoral groups which include, local government, regional health authorities, not-for profit, indigenous partners and community organizations
· Facilitate collaborative planning processes around complex community issues, quickly synthesize data and adapt processes as required
· Bring systems thinking, experience in planning and community engagement processes and build capacity for collaboration around community health opportunities
· Works across organizational programs and projects, and provide support for research, evaluation, content development, delivery, and partnership development
DUTIES AND REPSONSIBILITIES
· Plan and deliver planning processes, facilitated workshops, webinars and other BCHC capacity building events and activities
· Provide content expertise to support community focus areas (i.e. healthy built environments, food security, active transportation, social connectedness, health and climate change, age-friendly planning, housing, child and youth mental wellness, etc.)
· Work with BCHC program team members to plan and coordinate logistics for workshops, events, planning processes and other events/activities; and
· Provide a range of tools, resources and supports to Indigenous and non-Indigenous governments, health authorities and community groups through grant offerings and other capacity supports (i.e. Reviewing assessments, engagement strategies and planning documents).
· Builds relationships within communities to foster positive culture change around the critical role of the social determinants of health, and through collective impact influences community health and well-being
· Provide consultation, leadership and health expertise to local governments, non-profit organizations and other community partners on strategies and decisions on land use planning
· Research and analyze community planning best practice and assist in the development of policy recommendations across community focus areas and in line with BCHC strategic priorities and goals
· Conduct research toward the development of capacity building offerings such as environmental scans, literature reviews, local and regional data, content/focus area specific information and resources
· Contribute toward the design and coordination of community engagement and stakeholder consultation materials, processes, and plans
· Provide ongoing data collection and analysis support for evaluation (i.e. Alchemer, Nvivo) to support the development and implementation of our evaluation frameworks and plans (development of methodologies and indicators, data collection, analysis, development of reports, etc.)
· Attend, participate and contribute to team meetings, and strategic planning sessions
· Collaborate with colleagues to achieve a coordinated approach
· Remain current with the best training/community planning, trends and opportunities to increase efficiency
· Maintain a respectful, courteous and team spirit environment
· Other duties as required.
