MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Sciences, Public Health or health-related fields. Previous research experience, clinic/hospital work or volunteer experience, and knowledge of the research process is preferred. This position requires flexibility and availability to adapt to patients’ schedules. Reliable transportation will be necessary in order to complete participants’ interviews at various community locations. Spanish language is a plus.

Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE:

The Research Assistants will be primarily responsible for recruiting potential adult participants at Howard University Hospital in Washington DC and the neighboring communities. Participants to be enrolled for the study are past COVID-19 patients. The study seeks to assess Long COVID prevalence and associated risk factors.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • As a critical component to the success of the study, the primary responsibility of the Research Assistants will be patients’ engagement, community outreach, and participants’ enrollment in the study.
  • Screen electronic medical records to identify eligible study participants, contact potential participants in a timely manner.
  • Obtain informed consent in accordance with research protocols, procedures, and good clinical practice guidelines.
  • Administer survey assessments and enter data in REDCap.
  • Perform and document risk assessments.
  • Attend mandatory study specific trainings and team meetings.
  • Complete and file daily paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Organize and maintain study participants’ data and extract medical data as needed.
  • Document accurate encounters and shift events, adhere to all study procedures, and communicating daily/weekly updates to study coordinator and recruitment lead.
  • Assist the follow-up team in preparing participants’ scheduling and completing follow-up visits virtually and in person.
  • Other duties deemed necessary to maintain the smooth operations of the research program such as biospecimens preparation, packaging and mailing to the biorepositery core.
