Under the supervision of the immediate supervisor the Research Assistant will assist with the design and execution of neuroscience experiments (in vitro or in vivo), perform routine laboratory procedures (e.g., animal handling, electrophysiology, immunohistochemistry, microscopy), maintain laboratory records, inventory, compliance with safety protocols, support in the preparation of manuscripts, presentations and grant materials, participate in lab meetings and contribute to the scientific discussion.

Position Summary:

  • Assist with the design and execution of neuroscience experiments (in vitro or in vivo)
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures (e.g., animal handling, electrophysiology, immunohistochemistry, microscopy)
  • Maintain laboratory records, inventory, and compliance with safety protocols
  • Support in the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and grant materials
  • Participate in lab meetings and contribute to the scientific discussion

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Neuroscience and Pharmacology, or other related disciplines
  • Prior experience in neuroscience, specifically in synaptopodin research is highly preferred
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Expertise in neuroscience research techniques such as immunohistochemistry, patch clamp recording, confocal microscopy, calcium imaging and other biochemical analysis (western blot, ELISA, etc.).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven track record of high-quality publications in synaptic plasticity research field
  • Experience in IMARIS image analysis, Hyugen deconvolution and electrophysiology-related software (e.g. Clampfit, Igor)
  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident
