Department Overview OHSU Casey Eye Institute has one of the top ophthalmic research programs in the country. Our scientists and clinicians have worked together to perform research studies that have revolutionized the practice of ophthalmology, and we continue to explore, innovate, and find new treatments for eye disease. OHSU Casey Eye Institute's faculty are responsible for many of the most recent advances in ophthalmology, which have revolutionized the diagnosis and treatment of many ophthalmic conditions. Advances in optical coherence tomography, ophthalmic informatics, corneal refractive, retina and pediatric eye care have been pioneered at Casey. We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Research Assistant 2 to join our dynamic lab team. This is a full-time, on-site position. The ideal candidate would have a bachelor's degree in biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or Molecular Biology. The successful candidate will play a vital role in advancing our understanding and developing future treatments for the eye disease glaucoma, all within a positive and supportive lab environment. Function/Duties of Position Key Responsibilities: Collaborate closely with the Principal Investigator and other team members on innovative research projects while maintaining a strong focus on detail. Follow established lab protocols diligently and seek guidance when necessary to enhance your learning and skillset. Engage in tissue and cell culture, confocal microscopy, and stem cell research, along with various assays and sample processing. Conduct library research, collect and analyze data, and maintain comprehensive and accurate Participate in routine lab maintenance, ensuring cleanliness and organization of the Input data into computer databases and contribute to both independent and collaborative efforts within the team. Required Qualifications Education/Experience: Bachelor's in relevant field OR Associate's AND 3 years of relevant experience OR 4 years of relevant experience OR Equivalent combination of training and experience Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse individuals. A proactive attitude toward seeking assistance and contributing to the overall success and organization of the lab. Demonstrated evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage competing priorities. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to work independently; willingness to serve as a positive and professional role model. Must have demonstrated record of reliable attendance, punctuality and proven successful performance in past and present. Preferred Qualifications A bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or molecular biology or related scientific fields. College courses in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or related subjects with labs Prior experience with tissue/cell culture, confocal and other microscopy, and stem cells is highly desirable.
