Research Assistant - Intersectional Capacity
Status: Temporary, Full-Time – Position ends July 31, 2026
Location: IDC / BCANDS Office – Ottawa, Ontario
Hours: *Typically, Monday through Friday – 8:30 am – 4:30 pm (7 hours / day)
Remuneration: $28 / hour – Eligible for IDC / BCANDS Benefit Plan after successful completion of probationary period.

RELEVANT KNOWLEDGE

The BCANDS Intersectional Capacity Research Assistant is expected to possess, maintain and acquire knowledge, as it relates to administrative support, disability and the Indigenous sector.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent office computer skills (word processing, presentation, record keeping and database programs)
  • Ability to communicate orally (public speaking) and in writing, to a variety of audiences in a variety of formats (virtual, in-person)
  • Physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position in a fast paced and at time, emotionally charged environment;
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle during work week
  • Must satisfactorily pass criminal background record checks, i.e., working with children and vulnerable adults
  • Previous administrative experience working with Indigenous communities, Elders, Persons with Disabilities (IPWD / PWD)
  • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
  • An acceptable combination of education and experience may be accepted, at the discretion of the employer

Responsibilities

The BCANDS Intersectional Capacity Research Assistant will work directly under the Senior Researcher and work successfully with other BCANDS team members, Indigenous communities, Elders and members, project partners as well as with a variety of other stakeholders. All interactions will be done in a respectful, understanding, confidential, trauma informed and culturally aware manner, ensuring the integrity of the Society and the confidence of our communities and stakeholders.
- Promote the project through various venues, meetings, virtually, through websites, in-person as able and through the development and distribution of promotional materials;
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate files in relation to work preformed, communities contacted, reporting, etc.

- Contacting communities and potential participants
- Maintain and understanding/ability to use, project recording equipment
- Assist in the preparation of written reports on activities, statistical information, barriers, etc. for senior management and funding partners, as directed;
- Administrative support duties required by the project
- Maintains the utmost level of confidentiality and professionalism;
- As a team member, assist in the other activities of the Society as required / requested.
