CAGE is an established research centre based in the Department of Economics at the University of Warwick and has recently been awarded £7.1 million by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) to continue its research programme for the next five years.
This Research Assistant (CAGE) position will assist Professors Bishnupriya Gupta and James Fenske in the successful execution of their economic history project, “Industrial Policy in India during the twentieth century”
The project seeks to use long data panels spanning the colonial and postcolonial periods to understand the effects and effectiveness of interventions in markets both in India and globally. It aims to assess how political risk, policies, unions, and other variables shaped firm choices and investments in the coal sector and how the economic elite evolved over the colonial period.
This job includes a variety of data analysis and dissemination tasks, which will provide excellent preparation for a postgraduate programme of study.
About You
We require an individual who has an interest in the research area, who is proactive and willing to work as part of a team. The Research Assistant will be expected to assist with the construction, cleaning, manipulating and analysis of historical data.
You will also conduct reviews of existing literature, datasets, and policy documents and work closely with Professors Bishnupriya Gupta and James Fenske throughout to disseminate project outcomes and draft presentations, reports, and academic papers.
You will have completed a bachelor’s degree in Economics or a related field by the start date. Good knowledge of Stata and/or Python is preferred.
