Base Salary starting from $89,755 + 17% superannuation. Full time, fixed term 2.5 years. Exciting opportunity for Research Assistant to join the Centre for Heart Failure and Diseases of the Aorta - a flagship partnership between the University of Sydney, The Baird Institute and the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Laboratory is located within the award-winning Charles Perkins Centre and is part of the internationally-recognised School of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney. About the opportunity We are seeking a Research Assistant to join our cardiovascular regeneration team and contribute to the development of therapies that aim to reverse heart failure and damaged arteries. The role involves supporting data collection and analysis, managing research documentation, and working collaboratively with researchers and stakeholders to ensure efficient delivery of research outcomes. Supervisory team Dr Robert Hume (Cardiovascular Regeneration, Lead of Translational Research, Lecturer) Professor Sean Lal (Clinical Academic Cardiologist, Professor of Medicine and Medical Sciences) Prof Paul Bannon (Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery) Prof John O’Sullivan (Clinical Academic Cardiologist, Professor of Cardiometabolic Medicine) Your key responsibilities will be to: contribute to the design and development of research protocols, ensuring timely execution of research activities follow guidance on research regulations, policies and procedures, ensuring projects align with standards assist with data collection and analysis, ensuring exceptional data quality and accuracy collaborate with researchers and affiliated partners to share findings and progress manage documentation processes for research publications and maintain comprehensive research records facilitate communication with a broad range of stakeholders, addressing concerns and strengthening collaboration support health and safety initiatives, coordinate safety activities and identify areas for improvement undertake other duties appropriate within the classification level as required. About you tertiary qualifications in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience experience conducting scientific literature searches and managing research data experience working in a research-intensive environment and in the higher education sector experience managing, reporting and disseminating research data experience calculating and preparing reagents for wet laboratory experiments skills in data analysis, organisation and time management, attention to detail, research software, computer literacy, communication and an emphasis on strong teamwork motivated individual, passionate about developing treatments to help patients suffering from life-threatening diseases maintains quality, standards and excellence in any research activities and output contributes to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled interacts with students, staff and other members of the University community in a professional, collegial and respectful manner experience with mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry and molecular biology techniques. Desirable (but non-essential) skills background in cardiovascular development/disease, biomedical engineering or pharmacology cell culture experience with induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) experience with immunofluorescence and microscopy.
