DEPARTMENT SUMMARY

The Daley laboratory (https://daley.med.harvard.edu), a multinational research group at Boston Children’s Hospital, is seeking a responsible, conscientious, and detail-oriented individual to join our ongoing efforts to uncover the molecular mechanisms that regulate blood development, aging and malignant transformation. The successful candidate should enjoy acquiring new skills and working as a member of a highly collaborative team. In addition to providing technical research support to lab members, responsibilities will also include some laboratory management and administrative duties, and use of mice as a model organism.
This is a great opportunity for either experienced candidates, or recent graduates looking to gain valuable experience and mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with experimental procedures involving mice, including breeding and genotyping, irradiation and cell transplantation, injection of medications, surgical procedures, as well as routine health monitoring and care.
  • Isolate cells and tissues from experimental animals, and prepare these cells for subsequent analysis by flow cytometry, molecular analysis, immunohistochemistry, cell culture or transplantation.
  • Culture mammalian cells using sterile techniques.
  • Cellular analysis including immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, DNA / RNA isolation, PCR, and other molecular biology techniques.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to date record regarding all procedures performed and results obtained.
  • Operate instruments such as flow cytometer and microscopes.
  • Ensure safe laboratory practices and compliance with institutional research guidelines.
  • Ordering and stocking of supplies and general lab maintenance

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related discipline; MA or MS in these areas will also be considered.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience
  • Willingness to work with animals and animal and human tissues.
  • Strong organizational, management and communication skills, and an ability to recognize and prioritize responsibilities.
  • Ability to work hard –independently as well as with others as a team in a productive manner.
  • Willingness to commit to two years.
