QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

Qualifications: (1) Minimum 4-year BSc in paleobiology or closely related field; (2) 1-2 years of graduate study in palynology or palaeobotany focused on the identification and/or counting of plant fossils.
Experience:
(1) Minimum of 2 years experience collections work with plant or animal fossils and/or zooarchaeology specimens;
(2) Co-preparation of manuscripts for peer reviewed science or similar journals as evidenced by published scientific papers in palaeobotany and/or palynology, or paid copy-editing experience in another scholarly field.
(3) Prior experience identifying Paleocene or Eocene fossil pollen & spores or plant macrofossils from Canada is an asset.

Responsibilities

Curatorial work on a research plant fossil collection, including preparing samples for shipping to Canadian museums.
Basic data collecting from plant fossils. Assist in the preparation of written reports and/or manuscripts for peer reviewed science journals describing fossil plants and interpreting the data. Review of palaeobotany literature and consultation with scientific collaborators in aid of these tasks, and other related duties as assigned.
