The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) trains doctors who put patients at the centre of their exemplary care. The School, which offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes, is named after local philanthropist Tan Sri Dato Lee Kong Chian. Established in 2010 by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in partnership with Imperial College London, LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. The School’s primary clinical partner is the National Healthcare Group, a leader in public healthcare recognised for the quality of its medical expertise, facilities and teaching. The School is transitioning to an NTU medical school ahead of the 2028 successful conclusion of the NTU-Imperial partnership to set up a Joint Medical School. A Research Assistant position is offered in A/P Yusuf Ali’s lab at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, a joint medical school between Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Imperial College London.
We are seeking a Research Assistant who is passionate about being part of a research team that focuses on unraveling the molecular mechanisms underlying Type 2 diabetes (T2D) pathogenesis and multi-organ dysfunction. The Research Assistant will actively participate nutrition/animal/plant protein experiments involving molecular techniques such as histology and animal models of disease, while also assisting with clinical intervention studies. Additionally, the role also includes managing laboratory administrative tasks such as procurement, laboratory safety compliance and inventory management to facilitate smooth laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform molecular biology assays/experiments, including histology, western blotting, confocal microscopy, etc.
• Perform in vivo experiments, animal studies
• Support Research Fellows in both wet and dry lab activities in the execution of their research projects
• Assist in clinical research activities, including patient recruitment, data collection, clinical assessments, and ensuring protocol compliance
• Provide support in data analysis for clinical and experimental data
• Contribute to laboratory operations by basic laboratory housekeeping needs, proper functioning of equipment, and adhering to safety protocols
• Share responsibility for procurement (purchasing equipment, materials and consumables)
• Share responsibility for safety-related duties
• Collaborate effectively with the research teams to achieve overall research goals and objectives

Key Competencies and Education Requirements:

• Bachelor in Biology, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, or related fields. Fresh graduates are welcome to apply
• Possess a minimum of 1 year of experience in microbiology and molecular biology research
• Experience with animal experiments would be of benefit, but not essential
• Able to work independently and as a team player
• Able to work under pressure to meet possible tight datelines
