A full-time Research Assistant I position is available at the A.A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging/Center for Neuroimaging in Aging and Neurodegenerative Disorders/Department of Neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital for NIH-funded research project studying imaging biomarkers of cognition and disease progression in individuals with neurodegenerative disorders with a focus on Huntington’s disease and Alzheimer Disease in Down Syndrome. A major goal in the lab is to both understand the neural underpinnings of neurodegenerative disorders as well as to develop biomarkers that may predict onset or be used to characterize progression.
Working independently under minimal supervision, the incumbent will be responsible for acquiring and analyzing high-resolution structural, diffusion weighted imaging (DWI), resting functional MRI using software developed at the Martinos center. Additional responsibilities will include group level statistical analyses, use of prediction models/support vector machines/machine learning approaches.
The ideal person for this position should have a quantitative background, excellent organizational skills, and should pay close attention to detail. Proficiency with MatLab, UNIX, Linux, Python are especially desirable; programming skills for other languages may also be helpful. Proficiency in statistics and programs such as SPSS are also a plus. Prior experience in working with human brain imaging data using common software packages (e.g. FreeSurfer, FSL, SPM, AFNI) would be especially helpful. Analytical skills and ability to resolve technical problems are especially important as are excellent organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records This person will be expected to work independently and with the team, including investigators, staff/clinical research coordinators, fellows, and students; and will report directly to Dr. Herminia Diana Rosas, MD.
JOB SUMMARY

Provides assistance to the Principal Investigator and Study Team in coordinating research activities that may include conducting a variety of routine experiments with established methodologies, data collection and management, and other research activities as assigned.
Candidates who are in the process of completing their bachelor’s degree have a grace period of six months from their hire date (up to 1 year if starting per diem) to provide degree equivalency verification.
