Research Assistant / Ophthalmic Technician Reports to: Director of Clinical Research   Position Summary: Assist in the care of patients and research study participants by performing portions of the patient exam and a variety of preliminary tests according to physician orders and nature of the patient visit.   Principle Duties and Responsibilities · Conducts standardized visual acuity testing for research participants following study-specific protocols · Escort patients to and from exam areas (may be required to assist patients with walking, pushing wheelchairs) · Complete and accurately document necessary testing, patient’s health history, and medications · Provide patient information concerning their eye care · Communicate with physicians to ensure patient satisfaction · Perform other duties as assigned   Work Relationship and Scope The Research Assistant / Ophthalmic Technician works closely with physicians, patients, research participants, and other medical floor staff.   Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities · High School Graduate · Knowledge of proper, safe and efficient use of medical and office equipment · Ability to develop positive working relationships with physicians and staff · Ability to work in a fast-paced medical facility while adhering to HIPAA compliance regulations · Strong aptitude with computer software and typing skills · Understanding of medical terminology and basic anatomy of the eye · Ability to convey a positive attitude and be able to work well independently · Previous experience in a medical office desirable   Work Conditions This position is part of the Research and Retina teams at 800 N. First Street, Wausau, WI. Hours of work depend on the needs of the Clinic. Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Occasional lifting (30 pounds), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing stairs is required.
