The MOMENTUM (MOvement, MENopause and opTimUM health) in the Faculty of Kinesiology invites applications for two (2) Research Assistant - Phlebotomist. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 12months/year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The MOMENTUM research project is a collaborative of Kinesiology researchers at the University of Calgary. MOMENTUM is a cohort study, investigating wellness across menopause (pre, peri, and post). The phlebotomy position will be under the direct supervision of Dr. Culos-Reed and supported by the MOMENTUM core team of principle investigators (12 in Kinesiology), and the MOMENTUM research coordinator. This is a recurring part-time position supporting the MOMENTUM project at the University of Calgary, acting as a substitute for the project’s primary phlebotomist. The incumbent will provide on-call support for phlebotomy services as needed, based on participant scheduling and operational requirements. The role reports directly to the MOMENTUM Primary Investigators and works closely with the MOMENTUM Research Coordinator. As a substitute position, work hours are variable and not guaranteed weekly but may reach up to 25 hours per week depending on demand. Shift times will be on weekdays between 6:45am and 12:45pm. At least 72-hour advance notice will be provided for required coverage when possible but in cases of personnel illness or emergencies, this will not always be possible.
The incumbent will perform blood draws and blood processing for the MOMENTUM cohort study. The incumbent will use their expertise in phlebotomy to effectively manage complex participant issues and minimize the potential for participant discomfort and errors within the sample collection. It is important that the incumbent has the initiative for professional development, ensuring their knowledge is current within the field. This role requires direct interaction with all study participants, as well as with other staff, students, and researchers; therefore, strong communication skills are required.
