POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Department of Plant Pathology at North Dakota State University (NDSU) invites applicants for a non-tenure-track Assistant Professor (Research) position. The successful applicant will support various projects and activities involving generating, handling, storing, and analyzing genomics data generated from plant-microbe studies. The successful applicant will also actively participate as a PI and Co-PI (with other faculty members) to develop an independent externally-funded research program on plant-microbe interactions, host/pathogen genomics, virology or related areas of interest.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • An earned Ph.D. in plant pathology, plant sciences, bioinformatics or closely related fields that include extensive training in plants, pathogens, and bioinformatics.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish research in the areas of bioinformatics and data science in relation to plants and/or microbes (pathogenic or beneficial).
  • Strong interpersonal and effective oral and written communication skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATION:

  • Experience in analyzing multiple datasets, including genome, transcriptome, epigenome, metagenome, metabolome, proteome generated by multiple platforms.
  • Experience working with multiple programming and scripting languages, such as R, Python, Perl, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience in big data management, handling, and storage.
  • Hands-on experience in sequencing library preparations and handling DNA sequencers.

  • Support the advancement of applied and fundamental research in the department and at NDSU.
  • Build and manage data analysis pipelines to analyze bioinformatics data generated from plant and pathogen studies.
  • Facilitating researchers in the department by providing services, tools, and facilities for data analysis.
