Description

McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics (MSBMI) at UTHealth Houston is recruiting a full-time Research Assistant Professor specializing in Clinical Research Informatics. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in computation and hold a PhD in a Quantitative Field (e.g., Biomedical Informatics, Physics, Mathematics, etc.). UTHealth Houston is located in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center (TMC), in cosmopolitan Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States.
MSBMI currently offers Master’s, Ph.D. degrees, and a certificate program in biomedical and health informatics. The role focuses on advancing research in clinical data understanding and reuse for research and quality improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD in Biomedical Informatics, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in informatics, public health, or biomedical informatics research, particularly in areas related to healthcare data.
  • Demonstrate ability to apply informatics techniques to real-world healthcare challenges.
  • Track record of publishing research and contributing to the scientific community in healthcare informatics.
  • Experience in data analysis, including working with large datasets, electronic health records (EHR), or related databases.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Familiarity with Electronic Health Records (EHRs).
  • Experience with statistical analysis and/or machine learning applied to healthcare data.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage with cross-functional teams including clinicians, informaticians, and policymakers.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and contribute to informatics research initiatives that leverage data to improve healthcare quality and safety.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to integrate informatics solutions into clinical research and practice on system integration, data management, and decision support tools.
  • Apply advanced public health and biomedical informatics techniques to analyze and interpret data, developing strategies to enhance patient care.
  • Design, develop, and implement informatics tools that streamline healthcare delivery and improve patient outcomes.
  • Facilitate collaborations between researchers, clinicians, and health systems to bridge gaps in healthcare through data analytics and informatics solutions.
  • Teach or co-teach courses related to informatics, including curriculum development and mentoring students in areas such as health data management, informatics applications in practice, and healthcare quality improvement.
  • Contribute to grant writing and securing funding for research in informatics on quality and safety in healthcare.
  • Mentor students and trainees in the fields of public health, and biomedical informatics.
  • Publish high-quality research in reputable journals and present findings at academic and industry conferences.
