Description
Department/Unit: Department of Physics Closing Date: Until the post(s) is/are filled Post Specification: The Department of Physics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong invites applications for up to two Research Assistant Professor positions in the fields of experimental quantum optics, experimental quantum sensing, and theoretical quantum physics. 1) Experimental Quantum Optics: The duty of this position is to set up and study superradiant lasers or masers using atoms or defects in solids and to develop quantum information technologies based on these lasers or masers. 2) Experimental Quantum Sensing: The duty of this position is to set up and study the magnetic properties of 2D materials and nanoparticles using nitrogen-vacancy centre quantum sensors. 3) Theoretical Quantum Physics: The duty of this position is to carry out research on the dynamics and novel quantum phases of complex quantum many-body systems using analytical and numerical tools. Experience in tensor-network simulation and/or machine learning is preferred. The applicants should have a doctoral degree with relevant research experience. Competitive salary and benefit packages commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered. Appointment(s) will initially be made on contract basis for up to three years, renewable subject to performance and mutual agreement. Application Procedure Applicants should submit an online application and attach a full resume, research plan, teaching statement, copies of academic credentials, a publication list and/or abstracts of selected published papers (if any), together with names, addresses and fax numbers/e-mail addresses of three referees to whom the applicants' consent has been given for their providing references (unless otherwise specified). Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled. The University only accepts and considers applications submitted online for the post above via the CUHK career site. For more information and to apply online, please visit http://career.cuhk.edu.hk.
Responsibilities
The roles involve setting up and studying superradiant lasers/masers, developing quantum information technologies, studying magnetic properties of materials using quantum sensors, or researching the dynamics and novel quantum phases of complex quantum many-body systems. Specific duties depend on the specialization chosen: experimental quantum optics, experimental quantum sensing, or theoretical quantum physics.
