Description
Department/ Unit: Department of Mathematics Closing Date: Until the posts are filled Founded in 1963, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a forward-looking comprehensive research university with a global vision and a mission to combine tradition with modernity, and to bring together China and the West. The Department of Mathematics in CUHK has developed a strong reputation in teaching and research. Many of the faculty members are internationally renowned and are recipients of prestigious awards and honours. The graduates are successful in both academia and industry. The Department is highly ranked internationally, e.g., it is 41st, 66th and 63rd in the 2022, 2023 and 2024 QS World University Rankings, and 51st, 42nd and 56th in the 2022, 2023 and 2024 US News Rankings, respectively. The Department invites applications for multiple non-substantive-track positions at the Research Assistant Professor (RAP) level in Mathematical Artificial Intelligence. We seek exceptional researchers who combine deep engineering expertise with a passion for engineering-driven AI innovation. Applicants should have (i) a PhD in Management Science and Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline, with a focus on AI/ML theory, algorithms, or applications; (ii) a proven engineering expertise: hands-on experience transforming the theory into scalable production systems, backed by patented innovations; (iii) a proven research record in mathematical AI (e.g., optimization, dynamical systems, graph theory, probabilistic modeling) or adjacent fields with engineering impact; and (iv) fluency in prototyping and software development (e.g., Python, C++, CUDA, or ML frameworks) and interest in open-source collaboration. The positions provide opportunities to collaborate with faculty on cutting-edge projects at the math-AI interface and lead engineering-intensive research initiatives, and access to high-performance computing resources and industry partnerships. We encourage applicants who thrive at the intersection of theory and implementation, with a vision to bridge mathematical rigor with real-world AI challenges. Appointments will initially be made on contract basis for up to three years commencing August 2025, renewable subject to performance and mutual agreement. Applicants should submit online application form, copies of qualification documents, a publication list and/or selected abstracts, together with the names and e-mail addresses of at least three referees to whom the applicant's consent has been given for their providing reference. Review of applications will begin on May 1, 2025 and will continue until the positions are filled.
