Description
The Department of Psychiatry in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
The Research Assistant’s primary purpose is to assist the Principal Investigator with the administrative components of research study set up and research study implementation for various studies focused on improving physical health outcomes for youth with mental illness.
This is a recurring part-time position. Recurring Part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Primary Accountabilities:

  • Must establish and maintain effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, Principal Investigator, and senior management
  • Must report to the Principal Investigator in a timely manner. The Principal Investigator must be kept informed of activities and progress of work
  • Must be able to manage their own time effectively
  • Must demonstrate strong communication, teamwork skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
  • Must provide support, mentoring, and direction to fellow research team members to ensure research and administrative activities are executed as per the research protocol and standardized operating procedures

Secondary Tasks and Duties:

  • Generate PowerPoint presentations on behalf of the Principal Investigator and research team, to be used when presenting to various internal and external stakeholders
  • Generate various reports as required by the Principal Investigator and research team. May require presentation of reports to various stakeholders
  • Compile tables, charts, graphs, and summarized statistics for integration in research papers and reports. This includes materials for presentation and publication
  • Process data using statistical software to conduct basic analyses of trends in support of the research project
  • Collect, consolidate, cross-tabulate and format data from various sources to prepare draft reports
  • Assist in collection and tracking of data from monitored use of services and provide information to various internal and external stakeholders

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in any of the following undergraduate programs: Health Sciences, Kinesiology, Nursing, or Psychology
  • Minimum of at least 2 years of research experience including the conduct of research studies (e.g. consenting, recruiting, and data collection)
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability for professional report writing
  • Knowledge of research ethics and regulations for granting agencies (e.g. Tri Council)
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
  • Must be open to learning and development and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments
  • A positive attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are critical to success
