The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, working with more than 200 ophthalmologists and visual scientists in Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland, is committed to advancing patient service, research, and training and education to the highest quality in all major areas of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. We are also dedicated to worthwhile community programmes and public education projects. The Department, always “in search of excellence”, is looking for candidates to take up positions in our clinical and research (academic, community and translational) programmes involving ophthalmic investigations, public education, out-reach, and ophthalmic studies on disease entities including, ocular surface diseases, refractive surgeries, ocular cancers, dry eye disease, thyroid eye diseases, glaucoma, children eye diseases, autoimmune diseases and retina diseases. We are highly committed to supporting career development of all staff members. Applicants should have/be (i) a Bachelor’s degree; (ii) honest, responsible and mature; (iii) proficiency in English and Cantonese; (iv) interest in research work in medicine (ophthalmology and visual sciences); and (v) attentive and kind to patients. Having skill and experience in statistical analysis (Stata, SAS, SPSS) and in analysing longitudinal/panel data, and/or experience in clinical/laboratory research will be advantageous. Fresh undergraduate candidates are welcome to apply. Those without a Bachelor’s degree or relevant working experience will be considered for appointment as Junior Research Assistant. Duties include (a) carrying out ophthalmic investigations for clinical and laboratory-based research projects (patients’ interaction will be required); (b) assisting in medical data extraction; and (c) providing assistance in follow-up schedule arrangement for patients involved in research projects. Opportunities include (1) being involved in landmark research projects and publications; (2) acquiring unique, specialised ophthalmological investigative skill with advanced ophthalmological instruments; and (3) academic opportunity if applicant is interested in postgraduate degree. Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for one year commencing as soon as possible, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement.
