Job Description
An excellent opportunity is available for a Research Assistant to join the Immunology Division within the Naik Laboratory at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.
About the Position
An opportunity exists for a full time Research Assistant to join the Naik laboratory in the Immunology Division. The objective of this position is to manage lab affairs including reagents and stocks, human and mouse ethics, training of new students and staff, but also to drive independent projects, as well as support other lab members in their projects. The focus of the lab is in immunology and haematopoiesis with essential skills for the role including cell culture, multiparameter flow cytometry, and molecular biology. This position would suit someone who is highly organised and accurate in their experimentation, adaptable to learning new techniques, and has a passion for helping make discoveries.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • BSc with Honours or Masters in an appropriate area of study, or relevant experience
  • Demonstrated laboratory research experience
  • Computer skills and ability to accurately record data, results and the development of new methods and theories
  • Project management, excellent oral and written communication and reporting skills
  • Multiparameter flow cytometry, primary cell culture, mouse experimentation, molecular biology (PCR, and preferred but not essential skills in cloning, sequencing, CRISPR)

Personal Qualities:

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work constructively within a team environment
  • Ability to work as part of a team using experimental protocols
  • Excellent attention to detail, ensuring that data, methods and theories are accurate, of high-quality and accessible to other researchers
  • Ability to manage time effectively and be reliable and approachable
  • Willing to take direction and have progress reviewed where required
  • Motivated in learning new techniques

Terms of Appointment
This position is available for 2 years in a full time capacity. Salary is Research Support Employee Level 6-7 ($92,364 - $110,320). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
