SIBCR’s research spans a broad range of areas such as mental health; neuroscience; diabetes, endocrinology and nutrition; prosthetics; oncology; age-related diseases; and, pulmonary diseases. We are seeking a Research Assistant for Dr. Debby Tsuang in the Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System.

SUMMARY:

The Research Assistant will play an integral role in the performance of ongoing research studies on Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia at the Seattle VA Puget Sound Health Care System. This individual will be involved in participant screening and recruitment, collection of clinical information and cognitive assessments, procurement of biological samples, and the performance of data entry.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Four years of college-level course work in relevant academic areas and at least 1 year of research experience.

DESIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with a geriatric population and/or dementia patients
  • Experience preparing forms for institutional review boards
  • Experience with psychometric testing
  • A strong working knowledge of basic Microsoft office applications
  • Ability to work independently and strong interpersonal skills for working with Veterans and as part of an interdisciplinary team

Responsibilities
  • Screen participants according to inclusion/exclusion eligibility criteria
  • Recruit and schedule participants for study visits
  • Obtain informed consent from study participants
  • Perform clinical research interviews with study participants
  • Conduct cognitive testing
  • Enter clinical information and test results into database
  • Manage and complete administrative study tasks and submissions to institutional review boards
  • Assist in clinical procedures such as blood draws and lumbar punctures
  • Develop study materials and organization systems
  • Assist in the dissemination of study results by performing literature searches, basic statistical analyses, and other publication-related activities
  • Ensure that projects are executed successfully and completed within required time frames to meet research objectives
