The Preston lab in the Department of Biology at the University of Oxford is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to join an international team of researchers to investigate the effect of temperature on plant-pathogen interactions. We are applying an integrated approach that combines understanding of pathogen biology and plant immunity to inform the development of climate-resilient crops.
You will hold or be close to completion of a relevant first degree. You will need to undertake experimental research and collect, analyse and present data, working in collaboration with a post-doctoral researcher employed on the same project. You will also contribute to general laboratory management and administration and provide advice to members of the research group.
You should have experience of undertaking experimental work in a laboratory environment, following or adapting experimental protocols, and be able to manage your own research and administrative activities. Direct experience of work with microorganisms is desirable. Excellent communication skills and the ability to keep accurate records are essential. You will be encouraged to develop your skills, engage with professional development opportunities and be supported to progress to the next stage in your career.
The University of Oxford is committed to equality and valuing diversity. All applicants will be judged on merit, according to the selection criteria. Where Covid-19 or other extenuating factors have resulted in substantial disruption to your work or research outputs, please explain this by providing an additional paragraph in your supporting statement.
This post is part time (50%) and available from mid-October.
