Description:

We are seeking a Research Assistant to join Dr Thomas Roberts’ Group based in the Institute of Development and Regenerative Medicine on the Old Road Campus.
The Roberts laboratory focuses on developing RNA-based therapeutics for neuromuscular disease. Our objectives include understanding disease biology, identifying and validating therapeutic targets, biomarker development, and developing gene-based nucleic acid therapeutic platforms. The laboratory uses in vitro and animal models to evaluate these platforms and simultaneously develops advanced delivery technologies to target relevant tissues and cells, such as skeletal muscle, heart, and nervous system. The laboratory has developed novel oligonucleotide therapeutics modalities for targeted gene upregulation for the treatment of haploin sufficiency disorders. Research in the laboratory also includes studying fundamental RNA biology and developing RNA-based therapeutic agents and novel technologies for their delivery
The role requires the applicant to have a BSc or MSc degree in a relevant science subject, with relevant practical working experience in a laboratory. The applicant should be highly motivated and have the ability to communicate effectively with others, must have experience in general cell culture techniques and in a wide range of analytical tools of molecular biology (e.g. cloning, western blot, RT-qPCR, and animal handling).
Applicants who fulfil the majority of the criteria are encouraged to apply.
To discuss the post in more detail, please contact Amarjit Bhomra, the Lab Manager using the contact details below.
