We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant, within the Nuffield Department of Women’s & Reproductive Health (NDWRH) (reporting to Dr Neva Kandzija). You will be working on a project investigating the effects of nutritional compounds on placental mitochondrial function.
In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate experimental records and determining the most appropriate methodologies to test scientific hypotheses. You will select, establish, and adapt experimental protocols to assess placental cells and mitochondrial function in response to various compound treatments. Your key responsibilities will include isolating primary cells and performing a range of functional assays to collect, analyse, and present scientific data. You will also oversee general laboratory management and administration, including maintaining stock levels of laboratory consumables.
You will contribute actively to regular discussions within the lab, participate in broader project planning, and share research findings with colleagues across the institute and partner institutions.
You must hold a first degree in biomedical sciences or a related discipline, along with relevant laboratory experience. You will have hands-on experience with cell culture and commonly used laboratory techniques. The role requires excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a friendly and supportive team environment.
