Reporting to Prof. Meredith Hughes in the Astronomy Department, the Research Assistant will work on research tasks related to measuring the dynamical mass of gas-bearing debris disk host stars.
Responsibilities include:
This is an on-campus position beginning in Fall 2025.
This is a 1 year position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in astronomy or a related field and/or the equivalent level of training, education and experience.
Experience programming in python.
Strong communication skills.
Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact collegially with individuals of different backgrounds.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working with millimeter interferometric data.
Writing scientific software in python.
Scientific writing at the level of a bachelor’s thesis or higher.
Familiarity with the scientific literature on debris disks and stellar astrophysics.
Working knowledge of the CASA software package.
Experience with high-performance computing environments.
