JOB SUMMARY

The University of Michigan’s Inclusive History Project (IHP) is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced researcher to join our team at UM-Flint, with a desired start date of late May/Early June. This position will serve as the primary researcher for a new IHP research project focused on the origins of the University of Michigan-Flint, titled The 1956 Project. Hours will be 10-29 per week as schedule permits from May 2025 thru December 2025. This position will work under the supervision of the 1956 Project’s principal investigator and in consultation with the IHP Research Director on the Flint Campus.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS*

  • Possession of a Master’s degree in History, American Studies, Ethnic Studies, or another relevant field
  • Experience with collecting and interpreting archival data and oral histories
  • Experience with collaborative research processes and methods
  • Experience disseminating research using public-facing outlets and approaches
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
Responsibilities
  • Identify research questions, design research plans, and conduct historical research (archival, primary, and secondary) for The 1956 Project
  • Create and maintain research records
  • Summarize, analyze, and synthesize research to share with IHP leadership and external audiences
  • Contribute to planning for and execution of deliverables for The 1956 Project, which may include short written pieces, public presentations, digital tools, exhibits, etc.
  • Meet monthly with the IHP team, including the Director of Research for the Flint campus, regarding the development and progress of research and engagement for the project
  • Participate in additional IHP activities as needed
