Description

Provides technical assistance and supports research projects for several faculty; Supervises, trains and provides technical support to students and interns; Utilizes applied and basic laboratory techniques to facilitate research across cattle, equids, and forages; Assists with publications, grants, IACUC and IRB applications; Aids in dissemination of research information through presentations, field days/outreach events; Performs ordering, inventory, budget tracking, and laboratory safety and maintenance; Performs other duties as needed.

  • Set schedules across nutrition faculty to ensure all goals are met equally
  • Supervise, train, and provide technical support to graduate and undergraduate students, and part-time student workers and interns while conducting research activities, both on and off-campus
  • Conduct laboratory analyses for faculty including, but not limited to: ELISA and colorimetric assays, forage grinding and NIRS scanning, in-vitro analyses, RNA isolation, PCR (traditional and quantitative), western blotting and protein expression systems and work with collaborators and UTK/UTIA/Industry or other institutional partners for Omic data and/or additional assay needs
  • Assist with manuscript preparation, grant writing and submission, and IACUC and IRB protocol development and maintenance
  • Conduct and support faculty and graduate students in applied and demonstrational research, both on- and off campus beef and dairy cattle, equids, and forages
  • Compile data from multiple sources, prepare and deliver presentations on research outputs and demonstrations at field days, scientific conferences, and outreach events/programs both on- and off-campus
  • Track inventory, perform lab safety checks, monitor budget, and order supplies for laboratory maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience: plus 2-3 years’ experience in animal science, biology, nutrition, biochemistry, physiology, or related field
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize needs and work in a team environment ·
  • General knowledge of large animals ·
  • General knowledge of IACUC/IRB and lab safety
  • Advanced knowledge of research methods
  • Advanced ability to communicate research concepts and results through written, oral, and visual methods
  • Ability to execute and oversee research projects
  • Ability to oversee and direct work of designated personnel and/or students
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment visa status.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Master’s Degree
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience in research lab or experience with job requirements/duties listed
