DESCRIPTION

This is a Research Associate position in the Department of Molecular & Cellular Physiology at LSUHSC in Shreveport. The individual contributes to performing day-to-day operations in the lab of Dr. Khalid El Saafien. Experience in tissue sectioning, histology, immunohistochemistry, RNAscope in situ hybridization, and confocal microscopy is required. Experience in data analysis, purchasing, laboratory organization, and inventory management is a plus. The candidate must be attentive to details, organized, and able to work independently and as part of a team. Regular attendance is needed for the performance of this job, occasional attendance may be necessary outside normal working hours. Lunch and breaks are dictated by workflow. All tasks are based on the needs of the PI and associated lab members. The Research Associate will acknowledge and respond to needs as they occur to assure day-to-day operations are maintained.

QUALIFICATIONS

The applicant must meet the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Applied Biology, Cell Biology, or a related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office program.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and statistics programs
Responsibilities

25%: Performing tissue processing, including use of a cryostat, histological staining of sections, immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, microscopy, and analysis of slides. This also requires an understanding of the basic principles and attention to detail to properly track all samples. Some training of personnel from other labs will be required.
25%: Performing animal studies, including tissue collection and preparation of samples for analyses.
50%: Maintaining the daily operation of the laboratory, including inventory management, purchasing, and laboratory organization.
