Research associate (m/f/x) for 3 years with 39.83 hours/week (100%, TV-L E13)
The Experimental Petrology and Geochemistry Group at the Institute of Geosciences (IFG) at Ruhr University Bochum focuses on experimentally investigating high-temperature magmatic processes at the planetary scale. By combining experimental, geochemical, and numerical methods, we study processes ranging from core formation and magma ocean crystallization to mantle melting and melt/fluid migration at the micron scale. You can find more about our workgroup here. Our group also contributes to teaching in the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree programs in Petrology, Geochemistry, and Mineralogy.
We are looking for a talented candidate to join our team and work on the development and application of novel experimental techniques in magmatic petrology and geochemistry, with a strong research focus.

Responsibilities

YOUR TASKS:

  • Development of own research ideas and acquisition of third-party funded projects related to Experimental Petrology, Mineralogy, and Geochemistry.
  • Research-related tasks in the Experimental Petrology Laboratories.
  • Teaching of courses within the working group (4 hours/week) mainly in Igneous Petrology and Mineralogy. This includes field courses in mountainous areas. Teaching can be conducted in English.
  • Supervision of B.Sc. and M.Sc. theses.
  • Publication of own research results in peer-reviewed journals and presentation of results at national and international conferences.
